What is facial symmetry?
Facial symmetry describes how closely the left and right sides of your face mirror each other. Researchers measure it by comparing landmarks — the corners of the eyes and mouth, the tip of the nose, the edges of the jaw — across the midline. In studies, higher symmetry correlates positively with rated attractiveness, likely because it acts as an honest signal of developmental stability: a body that grew evenly despite stress, illness, and environmental noise.
But context matters. The effect size is moderate, not magic.
